Here’s a snapshot of Hillman Baptist Church…
Hillman Baptist Church was established in 1926. We are a “country” church, about 15 minutes north of Mora, MN…and about 1hr and 15 minutes north of the Twin Cities metro area. We were established as a BGC (Converge) church.
We have a Deacon/Deaconess board, which currently includes 2 deacons...2 deaconesses...church chairman and pastor. These folks make up the “spiritual” leadership of the church. Our current church Board would like to move towards having Elders.
We have a pianist, organist and worship leader. Typically we sing 2 or 3 hymns and about the same number of more contemporary “worship” songs. Our pew Bibles are NIV, but our current interim pastor uses ESV.
Currently we have Sunday School at 9:30 and our Worship service at 10:30. Youth Group is every other Sunday evening. AWANA is on Wednesday evenings. We are very “mission” minded, including support to a “sister” church in Ukraine, a missionary from our church in Ukraine, and a missionary family in Mexico from our church. We have sent multiple teams to both countries.
We have about 50 members, and 60-70 regular attenders. The majority of our congregation are conservative in theology, close to “traditional” Baptist beliefs, but not in the “fundamental, KJV only” camp.
We’ve lacked in “discipleship” and solid teaching about basic church doctrines contained in Scripture, over the last several years, until our current interim pastor came in 2021. We are also in need of Biblical, expositional teaching that gives people a solid foundation in the faith and helps us have the ability to discern false teachings, which have become part of the “norm” in many evangelical churches.
Our former pastor (of 8 ½ years) was asked to resign, due to a change in his theology away from Biblical doctrines contained in our church covenant. Over the last few months of his ministry, his sermons included teaching a full-preterist eschatology, belief in modern day prophets (receiving words from the Lord, dreams and visions) and apostles (including all the apostolic gifts), along with other Word of Faith/New Apostolic Reformation teachings and support of many extreme conspiracy theories. About half a dozen from the congregation left as well, including 3 board members.
Hillman is a very caring and giving congregation, not only in our own neighborhood, but in support of missionaries and our sister churches, as well.
Our preference is to hire a pastor who has recently finished his seminary or Bible degree or perhaps has a year or two to finish, and could do most of it on-line. Our interim pastor will be available to be a mentor/teacher and work alongside our new pastor. His name is Dave Melin and he is retired from Rush City Baptist, and has been an adjunct professor at Northwestern Bible college and Central Seminary. He currently goes to Mexico and Ukraine each, twice a year to teach Bible classes.
We would also consider hiring a pastor with ministry experience who already has finished seminary or has a Bible school degree.
